The Ropes Are Out
It’s the last day of April and the ropes have gone out. This means that you can swim almost to the edges of the pond. The water temperature hits 14 degrees so it has been warm enough for long enough to be safe, according to the lifeguards who patrol the ponds. They only let you swim in a small area during the winter in case you suffer from the cold beyond their reach. For me it means that summer is beginning, which in turn means, of course, that it’s about to rain.
