Time certainly does. This was probably my last swim of the year, so time to look back.
The pond looked like this 12 months ago. Much more wintry than today’s rather mild seven degrees.
It’s been an extraordinary year for my trade, which is journalism. Rather busy for me, too, with a new book out. My boys are a year taller and wiser (sort of).
The ponds are not unchanging either. There are multi-million pound plans to dig them out and reshape the dykes in the cause of flood defence. I am not at all convinced that it’s a sensible use of public money, but that might be because I don’t really like the idea of any interference in what has become a regular personal habit in a rather hectic public life.
Every week I swim (at least once) and each time something has changed with the seasons. But even here the real world brings change, too.
