This felt like as far from the Jubilee events in London as you can get: in the River Frome near Tellisford in Somerset as it passes through this secluded meadow. There was just one other couple having a picnic perched on the nearby World War II pill box.

In fact. much of Somerset, like the rest of the country, was decked with sodden bunting as each village we went through enjoyed its Royal Bank Holiday, despite the rain. I think even Hitler would have had trouble understanding, let alone subduing this lot.
