Malta Ease, Ah.

I think my last sea swim was last August in Norway within the Arctic Circle. Which was warmer than the Ponds last week (3 degrees), but nowhere as mild as the Med off Malta in March.

I leapt out of the car and into the sea much to the consternation of my guide, Victor ‘Mr Malta’ Aquilina. The historian and former editor of the Times of Malta is an excellent swimmer himself, ‘like all Maltese’,  but he thought it daft to do so off-season.

But while snow falls and Siberian winds howl across Britain, here in Malta I saw my first swifts of the year. Possibly early harbingers or simply rogues who’ve drifted across with the sandy winds from Libya.
