I’ve been away – in more ways than one – for a while, so quite a relief to get up on the heath and into the ponds again.
It was a like a Merchant Ivory film where the colonial officer returns from duty in the Empire to find England in Technicolor Edward Thomas spring lyrical mood. All bird song, blossom and bursting leaves.
Oddly, the women’s pond – which is usually colder than the men’s – is now in summer mode. Ours still has its winter configuration with the ropes in. I suspect that might change this weekend.
Summer’s almost here. In more ways than one.
