Um dia cinzento na praia
This could be Cornwall. It was certainly cold, grey and breezy enough.
Only three guys in wetsuits were in the water trying to surf. Some sea anglers bent their rods against the wind, casting into the rather metallic coloured waves.
In fact it is the rugged Praia Da Adraga, 15 kms west of the hill-top palaces of Sintra near Lisbon. In June.
The waves were powerful enough to give quite a shock when I dived into them. Great fun. They soon threw you back onto the beautiful orange and brown beach made up of shells and sandstone grains. The water was about the same temperature as the ponds, but somewhat wilder.
The clam and shrimp lunch with vina verde in the beach restaurant was outstanding. It was packed with customers even if the sea was (almost) empty.
