Sun and ice

You know it’s cold when there’s frost on the coir-matting on the jetty and ice on the steps into the pond-water.

Standing in the golden sunshine was the heron, who’d swapped the far bank for a clump of twigs just 10 meters down from the jetty and only a few strokes from me as I swam past.
