This is as good as it gets swimming on the Heath. 17 degrees in the water. Sunshine on your back when you get out. And yet…

It feels a little like the opening scene in a horror movie. The calm before the storm. The sun is sparking on the water, you can hear the murmur of light-hearted conversations between the lifeguards and the punters. Aquatic fowl are moving through the reeds.

Then when you turn over for back-stroke your eye catches a glint of light off metal through the trees. A huge monstrous arm of yellow and black is moving between the gaps in the branches, silver teeth rise up above a dark mouth.

Yup. They have started digging for the dams.
